The 2025 UNA-USA Leadership Summit on Nov. 16, 2025 celebrated youth leadership, dedication, and global responsibility through its annual awards ceremony. While much of the summit focused on workshops and training throughout the week, the final day highlighted the students, chapter leaders, and advocates who have made a significant impact within the UNA-USA network. The ceremony created an atmosphere of pride, purpose, and motivation as each speaker and honoree reflected on the organization’s mission to empower the next generation of global leaders.

The event began with several inspiring remarks from UNA-USA youth advisors and chapter representatives. One advisor shared that they had been involved “since I was basically 18,” which set the tone for the ceremony. Their message highlighted commitment and personal investment, explaining that “when you want to work on something, it really matters how much you care and how much work you put into it.” This idea of genuine dedication resonated throughout the program as multiple speakers stressed the importance of caring deeply about global issues and using personal passion to drive action.

Another speaker encouraged attendees by stressing the value of everyday efforts. They explained that even small choices in school or at home can spark broader change. “Every action has a reaction. Every action has an effect,” they said, reminding young people that their decisions carry real weight in the world. The message highlighted the idea that leadership often begins with small acts of awareness and responsibility, rather than big moments.

The heart of the ceremony featured the presentation of several major awards, each recognizing individuals or chapters for their strong commitment to the United Nations’ values. The UNA-USA High School Campus Chapter of Excellence winner received applause for their dedication to building community engagement and promoting global awareness. After this, the College Campus Award of Excellence was awarded to the University of California-Los Angeles chapter. They were honored for leading initiatives that connected local action with international advocacy.

UNA-STL Chapter President Carlos Suárez was awarded Advocate of the Year. His leadership served as a model for how young people can influence policy discussions, organize meaningful events, and inspire peers to stay informed about global issues. Lady Tee Thompson received the Volunteer of the Year award for her exceptional service and ongoing commitment to strengthening the UNA-USA community. Each award highlighted a different aspect of participating in global change: leadership, collaboration, passion, and perseverance.

One of the most memorable moments came from Shivi Kumar, who provided powerful encouragement for students navigating leadership roles. She told the audience, “If you pair, you belong,” highlighting that partnership, teamwork, and connection are essential for effective global action. She followed this with another impactful message: “Start before you feel ready.” Her words urged attendees not to wait for the perfect moment but to step forward with courage, even when they feel uncertain.

The ceremony concluded with a call to unity and empowerment: “Let’s weave the world’s women together.” This sentiment reflected the broader mission of the UNA-USA Summit, reminding participants that global change requires collaboration, empathy, and bold leadership from young people everywhere.
