Resolution GA-01 March 27
Re.: Ending Homelessness
Submitted to: General Assembly
Submitted by: Slovakia, Monaco
Date: March 27, 2020
Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and
Saddened that homelessness affects 1.6 billion people in the world, and
Noting that the capital of Slovakia (Bratislava) has over 2,000 homeless people, and
Alarmed that there are 30,000 homeless people in Slovakia,
Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:
- The UN will raise dues for the top 10 wealthiest countries by 2% so that Slovakia can pay for this program.
- We will create the program HSLF (homeless shelters for the less fortunate) to help with this idea which will start in the cities with the most homeless people, Manila, New York City, Mumbai, Los Angeles, Moscow, and Bratislava.
- The building materials (from IKEA) to help our workers in building shelters to house the homeless momentarily. Also, materials to build long term apartment building to provide people in need with affordable housing and short term jobs.
- Some job training will be provided to families with children that would need it most in the long run to prepare for in the long run.
- In Slovakia we are lacking in labor workers so giving basic training in labor jobs could help the economy and help with people who need jobs.
Resolution GA-04 March 27
Re.: Meeting the needs of and rehabilitating animals and humans after the wildfires
Submitted to: General Assembly
Submitted by: Australia
Date: March 27, 2020
Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and
Alarmed that since August 2019 fires have destroyed over 2,000 homes, killed billions of animals, and destroyed their habitats, and
Noting that if the fires are not stopped, Australia will lose most, if not all, of its unique ecosystem, and
Concerned that if the fires continue, many more animals will go extinct in a country that is already suffering from extinction, and
Saddened that as the fires go on it destroys habitats and causes the extinction of animals such as the kangaroo island dunnart, koalas, western ground parrots, and so many more endangered species,
Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:
- The UN organizes a large group of 3,000 firefighters (Both donated from other countries and volunteers), to aid in the stopping of these deadly fires. This group, called S.A.P.I.F. (Stopping and Preventing International Fires) will stop these large wildfires, and prevent future ones from happening.
- According to CNN, there are currently 2,700 firefighters in the front lines of these fires, and according to EarthSky, there were 79,000 individual wildfires in August of 2019. S.A.P.I.F. will provide more firefighters, medical experts, veterinarians, and zoologists to stop the fires, and tend to the needs of animals and people alike.
- The proposed starting budget needed for S.A.P.I.F. is $50 million to get all the specialists and supplies needed to terminate the fires, rehabilitate the animals, and take the necessary precautions to prevent other events like this. This money will come from raising the dues of the 20 wealthiest nations dues 2.5.
- Future expansion plans can and will be made to prevent and put out wildfires in other parts of the world.
- Due to how urgent this is we must have the first part of this plan (the termination of the fires) be put into action within the next 3 months. This stage should last no more than a year and will be considered a success if the fires currently raging in Australia are terminated.
- Once the fires have been terminated, the next stage of the plan will begin. We plan to rehabilitate animals and their habitats, as well as protect endangered species from predators that would cause extinctions of Australia’s unique wildlife. This stage of the plan will take up to 5 years. This plan will be considered a success if the overall population of animal species rises by 68%.
- Once animal populations are once again rising, the third stage of this plan can begin. We will conduct controlled burnings to remove 57% of the underbrush that would make wildfires more dangerous. This will be an ongoing activity in order to sustain the safety of wildlife and people. This stage of the plan will be considered a success if the total amount of individual wildfires drops by 30%.
- If the plan is a success, we will take the steps used in this plan, and take it to other wildfire-prone areas of the world, stopping major fires in areas such as California, forested areas of Canada, the Western Cape of South Africa, and Northern Spain.
