This past week, Mathilde Dratwa and Mark Schulte from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and Arthur Lieber from Civitas, have been traveling to various schools to talk about corruption. Mathilde’s focus has been on corporations using countries like Luxembourg, Ireland, and the Cayman Islands as tax shelters. Using these nations saves a lot of money, but denies other countries the necessary funds they are actually owed and in some cases pays for persistent corruption in government. Arthur has been talking about how business pays for politicians and creates a cycle where these tax shelters remain legal even though they are harming other nations (and regular tax paying citizens).
