Religious conviction played a decisive role in the 2024 election, with a majority of Christian voters casting their ballots for Trump. Christians represented 72% of total voters throughout America during the 2024 election, with 56% voting for Trump. This is because religious beliefs had a big impact on the most recent election, causing those with a more faithful outlook on life to lean towards Trump. Another big impact on the decision-making of who to vote for was the subject of deportation. Republicans had a total of 86% who supported deportation, and Democrats with 25%. Trump made it clear during his campaign that if he were to get back into the White House, he would go even further on immigration by making promises of mass deportation. His voters may support the deportation of immigrants because they believe all are criminals, which could be blamed on the language Trump uses when he speaks out about foreigners in America. Using names like “illegal monsters”, “killers”, “gang members”, and more.
For those who are going to argue that Trump is only deporting immigrants who are criminals and are making America full of violence, over the two-year time period, only 21% of those deported had any criminal history. While it might be true that some of them came here illegally, it can take up to at least a couple years to receive a green card, along with thousands of dollars. Which just isn’t an option for some families who are coming to the US due to the better opportunities for income. In the 18th century, America was known as the land of opportunity and perceived as the land of economic opportunity. This made migrants drawn to the idea of the “American Dream,” and America was continually thought of as the country of freedom. We are now completely demolishing the idea of the “American Dream” for foreigners by kicking them all out and treating them as dangerous beings, 79% of which aren’t even criminals. The people who contributed the most votes to Trump and supported his deportation policies were largely white evangelical Protestants—voters who often justify their support on moral or religious grounds and have historically aligned with the Republican Party regardless of the candidate. These so-called Christians, who put their knees to the floor every Sunday and claim they are followers of Christ, voted for a man specifically because of his religious beliefs. Did they not realize that Donald Trump is faking being Christian just to target their particular group of people? While it might be true that they didn’t grasp this until after he had been elected and on the day of his swearing in, as he didn’t put his hand on the Bible. During his campaign, Trump made it very clear that he was going to deport all the “illegal aliens,” which very obviously goes against what the Bible preaches. Stated in Leviticus verse 19:34, “The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” Emphasizing how Christians who follow the Bible should treat everyone the same and as you would like to be treated. Another verse that highlights how God’s children are supposed to treat foreigners is Exodus 22:21, where God gives a Mosaic command saying, “You shall not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.” The Israelites had previously been enslaved and treated very poorly, so they were instructed by God to never treat any other the same again. God’s commandment has not been kept by the “faithful” Christians, as they voted for a President who wants to kick out fellow children of God from a land that we ourselves stole from Native Americans. We are deporting foreigners from “our land,” but we ourselves are foreigners as well.
