Saturday, February 8, 2020 we will be joined again by Christine Nobbe to learn about what’s new in the world of space exploration. The event will be at the Civitas Hub from 9-11 am.
American astronauts landed on the Moon in 1969. According to CCN, the Moon landing was watched by an estimated 600 million people around the world. This is amazing considering many people at the time did not own televisions and is still the biggest event on TV history. On February 6, 2018 SpaceX launched Elon Musk’s Tesla into space on a test launch of the Falcon Heavy Rocket. 2.3 million people watched the live stream, an estimated 100,000 watched in person, and 6,462,265 have watched the compilation video (https://youtu.be/A0FZIwabctw). If people are that excited about a Tesla being launched into space, how many people will be watching when the first woman lands on the Moon in 2024?
In this presentation, Christine Nobbe, who loves the Moon, will share goals for NASA’s Artemis project, progress towards those goals, and some speculation on the first female to walk on the Moon. Christine is also a student of the Moon Village concept, a collaborative “start small” concept recommended by the European Space Agency’s Director General, Professor Jan Wörner. Will NASA and ESA work together to make the dream of living and working on the Moon a reality? Finally, we will explore the Moon missions completed by China National Space Administration and the Indian Space Research Organization.
