Honors Session Results

May 14, 2022 we hosted our annual Honors Model UN Session. This is a special invite only session for the delegates from all other General Assemblies. We looked for students who wrote the strongest resolutions, who were the best at compromising, and who would thrive in small group work. Here’s what they came up with:

Proposed Operative Clauses for Refugee Bill of Rights

  1. Refugees should have the right to access careers based on experience and education; equal to the right of a natural citizen. (Group 1)
  2. Refugees have the right to access to the same education as a citizen upon arriving in the host country. (Group 1)
  3. Refugees have access to the same rights as a citizen in regards to healthcare, home ownership, etc. (Group 1)
  4. All refugees have a right to a safe, secure, and speedy trial (for asylum) and process (concerning ID & background checks) that lasts no more than 1-3 weeks. (Group 3)
  5. While the process is occurring, refugees have a right to safe housing, necessary supplies, and adequate healthcare until refugees have resources to continue on their own. (Group 3)
  6. All refugees have the right to be united with family if possible & to be provided with adequate care for children & families until necessary. (Group 3)

Proposed Operative Clauses for Host Country Bill of Rights

  1. If a country is unable to support a certain amount of refugees, (determined by population & resources) they should be able to deny them. A nation cannot deny refugees based on religion or culture. (Group 2)
  2. The host nation can determine when refugees should undergo an immigration process for citizenship. (Group 2)
  3. Citizenship should be granted to refugees based on prioritization from the host nation. (Group 2) (Not accepted)
  4. A host country has the right to impose a deadline for how long refugees can get resources. (Group 4)
  5. A host country has the right to put a limit on how many refugees can stay & transport them to an agreed upon nation. (Group 4)
  6. A host country has the right to expect laws to be followed and cultural traditions to be mutually respected. (Group 4)
