Hey teachers!
The Pulitzer Center continues to provide more information for teachers on the 1619 project as we all try to navigate these current uncharted waters. Below is information from Mark Schulte of Pulitzer on a webinar for teachers next Tuesday, March 24 at 3:00 PM CDT. As always, Pulitzer provides a wealth of helpful information.
Good afternoon, all —
I’m writing to let you know about a free 1619 Project webinar that we are hosting next week in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers. My team will be presenting materials including lesson plans, the reading guide, and extension activities for teachers nationally and I think it would be especially relevant for our teacher partners in St. Louis. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, March 24th at 3 pm central (4 pm eastern time).
We will strive to be attuned to the extraordinary circumstances teachers face, so this will not just be a walkthrough of our materials. We’ll be tackling the new coronavirus reality head-on.
Here is the link to register for the webinar: The 1619 Project: Activities for Student Engagement.
Attendees do not need to be AFT members and the training is free. The only catch is that teachers must register to be a member of AFT’s “Share My Lesson” website. It’s a wonderful resource for teachers to exchange curriculum. The folks at AFT tell me we have 555 registrants so far and predict that number to double by next week.
Looking forward to our call but wanted to share this now as something to distribute widely to teachers who are no doubt searching for ways to keep students learning through what will be an immensely challenging spring semester.
Best,
Mark
