Follow-Up from the Model UN PM Session

During the PM Session of the November 19th Model UN, delegates had time to debate 4 resolutions. (To see the full list of resolutions, click here) Here’s the record of the amendments and how the votes went. Photos from the session will be posted shortly.


GA-01: Debated & Defeated (12 Yes – 29 No – 9 Abstain)

Friendly amendments:

  • None

Proposed amendments that didn’t make it:

  • None

GA-02: Amended & Passed (31 Yes – 12 No – 9 Abstain)

Friendly amendments:

  • O.C. 2—Change to 100,000 people per 50 square kilometers (Netherlands)
  • O.C. 6—To pay for this project, countries that would like to fund this and participate would have their own option to participate for the 1% UN reduction in dues. (India)
  • O.C. 6—Countries that are directly affected by this immigration will have dues raised proportionately to their UN dues. Any country that wishes to raise dues to donate to the cause can do so. (China)
  • OC 7: Include the EAC (Educate a Child) initiative, enrolling refugee children in schools. (Qatar)

Proposed amendments that didn’t make it:

  • None

GA-03: Amended & Passed (42 Yes – 2 No – 8 Abstain)

Friendly amendments:

  • OC 1: Add a human trafficking task force from the UN in collaboration with India (Haiti)
  • Add Amendment #8: If task force added to OC 1, raise budget by $500,000 to help fund it. India will raise its dues to help pay. (Venezuela)
  • OC 2: Build the 58 centers in places, including but not limited to Saudi Arabia, Haiti, Thailand, Greece, and India. (Saudi Arabia)

  • None

GA-04: Amended & Defeated (12 Yes – 27 No – 12 Abstain)

Friendly amendments:

  • Monitor all countries with large nuclear programs (spend over 2% of their GDP on them) (Netherlands)

Proposed amendments that didn’t make it:

  • Add North Korea to the resolution. (Haiti)
