Betsy Sinclair was kind enough to introduce us to her new platform, Magnify Your Voice. Magnify is a tool that empowers regular citizens & students to create positive change in their community. This could be anything from getting graffiti removed from a wall to making a neighborhood more bicycle friendly. It’s non-partisan. It’s free. It’s a good way to get a look at the behind-the-scenes parts of civics.
Civitas already has a group created where students can create projects and help one another. You can join in by using the organization’s invite code amagicalmysterytour when you create an account.
These are some of the projects started by the students who met with Betsy on Feb. 2:
- Add Water Testing to Francis Howell High School (because of its proximity to the Weldon Spring Nuclear Disposal site)
- High School students helping elementary school students learn about computer coding
- Examining the possibly questionable way in which a new City Attorney for Webster Groves was selected
- Adding a sidewalk to a busy street in University City
- Gender-Neutral Bathrooms for Pattonville High School
