Resolution GA-02 July 20, 2018

Re.:                             Rising Sea Level in Bangladesh due to Climate Change

Submitted to:            General Assembly

Submitted by:            China (Jordan), Russia (Bayleigh), Pakistan (Jayla), Monaco (Victor)

Date:                           July 20, 2018

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 5 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”, and

Whereas Article 14 section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.”, and

Concerned that two-thirds of Bangladesh is less than 15 feet above sea level, and

Knowing that storm surges from more frequent and stronger cyclones push walls of water (on land?), and

Aware that intruding sea has contaminated groundwater, and

Worried that people’s homes, schools, and jobs are being destroyed, and

Realizing children able to go to school are in unstable buildings, and

Knowing that the population in Bangladesh is growing rapidly,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. Establish the Building Walls For Your Safety (BWFS) program to build a border around the water.
  1. Our program BWFS will move all people in immediate danger to safer grounds and build stronger buildings by the sea.
  1. It will create temporary shelters in cities far from the coast.
  1. Cut down on polluting by recycling and growing more trees.
  2. Build a wall near the ocean to keep the water from rising sea levels and tsunamis from reaching the people. People from Bangladesh and effected counties will help along with construction workers.
  1. The program will last until it is safe for the people to return, an estimated two years. If people do not feel safe returning, we will work on permanently relocating people.
  1. If successful, the program will expand to other countries who are in need of help with rising sea levels. For example, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Egypt.
