We are having a TEACHER PLANNING MEETING via Zoom on Thursday, September 24 at 4:00 to talk about MUN and other offerings from Civitas, as well as get valuable input from you. (Click here for the Zoom link for the teacher meeting)
Here’s some of what we will be discussing at the meeting and other important information for teachers in our program:
Welcome back to school! We know it is a very unusual beginning for everyone, whether you are meeting virtually, in-person, or a combination. Civitas will continue to offer events and programs, including our High School Model United Nations this fall. We are planning to do everything virtually. The basic components of Model UN will be the same, with class/club visits via Zoom or whatever platform your school is using. The country draft and actual Model UN sessions will be offered through us via Zoom. To help us with planning, please let us know if you will have students participating in our High School Model United Nations program this year. It requires minimal work for a teacher and is completely free. Important things to know:
- Someone from our staff can speak to teachers and/or students to talk about the program during a class, meeting, or club.
- We are planning two morning sessions on November 21 and December 5. If numbers get too large, we will add one or more afternoon sessions.
- If you have more than 25 students wanting to participate, we are happy to plan a separate Model UN event for just your school.
- We will need to know an approximate number of students you’ll have participating and which date you prefer before the October 3 country draft. Please email Stephanie your date preference and approximate number of participants by October 3.
- The delegate handbook and other resources will all be provided digitally on our website.
- Saturday, October 3 is the country draft, 10 am-12 pm via Zoom. At least one student should attend with a list of country requests for your whole group. They can follow the link above to sign up.
- We are happy to schedule a short, virtual resolution-writing workshop with your students or they can reach out to us via email with questions, drafts to review, etc.
- Resources and pictures from last year’s sessions are on our website: www.civitas-stl.com.
- We have many other exciting, free opportunities for students throughout the school year, as you’ll see in our weekly newsletter and on our website. This year’s kick-off event is this Saturday, September 19 with Reece Ellis, a Truman University student who is current President of Missouri College Democrats. Students can sign up by clicking here.
