-- Comfort Inn & Spazio's Active Citizenship Conference

1 The two prep sessions for the Conference were previously scheduled to run until Noon.  In the interest of humaneness, we have moved that time up to 11:30 AM.  Thank Gloria for that one!

2 This event was previously scheduled for Sat., Jan. 26.  Because of an entrance exam at Crossroads that morning, we needed to change the time.  Students at last Saturday's discussion overwhelmingly voted to postpone the session one week until Sat., Feb. 2.  Note: We will have vital high school activites three consecutive weekends in February (see calendar).

Global Gateway Program with Pulitzer Center

Former child soldiers in Liberia, a chilling topic indeed.  It is the focus of this week's Global Gateway project with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.  Journalist Ruthie Ackerman and Pulitzer Center Director Jon Sawyer will be in St. Louis for the program this Thursday and Friday.  Participating high schools are Collinsville, Crossroads, Lindbergh, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Parkway West, Rosati-Kain, Soldan, and St. Joseph's Academy.  We have our first participating middle school: Lift for Life Academy (charter school in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis).

Students are encouraged to submit questions and comments to Ruthie, Jon and one another by clicking here.  As of this morning, Ruthie has begun responding to the blog entries with some most insightful and engaging responses.  We urge you to check them out!

New Brochure for Active Citizenship Conference

The next major Civitas event is the February Civitas Conference on Active, Responsible, and Sustainable Citizenship. The conference is thirty days away and the first prep session is this Saturday.  We still have space for twenty thoughtful and concerned high school students.  If you are one of these, please sign up now by clicking here.  We have a new brochure on the conference that you can access by clicking here.
