Nuclear Conference Major Success Last Weekend!
Congratulations to all the fine high
school and college students who participated in our "Who Gets to
Belong to the Nuclear Club?" conference last
weekend. We had three working committees, each of
which took its own approach to dealing with this difficult
issue. Since there were so many good ideas that were
presented, we will offer bits and pieces of them over the next
few weeks in the newsletter.
In the meantime, we'll
have this edition be dedicated to photos. Here are a few
and you can access more by clicking here.

Interesting Video Clip on Race
Following the
conference, we received the following e-mail from delegate Quinn
Kazanecki, a junior at Maplewood-Richmond Heights High
School. We appreciate her sensitivity and deep concern,
and thought that our readers would be interested in it.
Hey, I was waking up this morning and
got on the computer and I saw this link for a clip of CNN, it
broke my heart and I was wondering if you could send it out to
be seen by eveyone in model UN, it is a segment on race, where
children had to choose between a black and a white doll, it
chilled me to the bone and I want more people to see this, I
think that what people have to say on this will be very
interesting.
Here is the address (please bear with
the commercial at the beginning of the clip):

thanks again and I hope to hear from you
soon,

"Urban-Go-Team" Begins on Saturday, March 17
Civitas will once again have a
program this summer in which students can intensely learn
and act upon urban issues in our metropolitan area. We'll
do some studying, we'll have lots of field trips, we'll have
interesting speakers, and we'll even try out some tasty
restaurants. We're either going to call the program the
Urban-Go-Team or "Show Me the Money in St.
Louis!"
We will have some opening
sessions in the Spring and then have a one week seminar the week
of July 30 - August 3. The first session of the Spring
will be on Saturday, March 17, at Crossroads (map) from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. We'll
have more details on this for you next week.
If you
are interested in being a member of the Urban-Go-Team, it is not
too late. We have a short survey for any student who
thinks that he or she might be interested in
participating. If you would like to be part of this
exciting program, we ask that you take the survey by clicking here.
