Second Session of High School Model U.N. Cancelled Due to Weather!

We regretted to cancel last Saturday's second session of the high school model U.N. because of the hazardous weather in the St. Louis area.  We are looking at possible ways to reschedule the session, but nothing yet is decided.  Thanks to everyone who was responsible enough to either read their e-mail or check our web site last Saturday morning.

    ISRAELI-CONSUL TO VISIT ST. LOUIS

On Thursday, February 22, 2007, Consul General Barukh Binah, an Israeli minister, will be speaking to St. Louis area students and teachers at Soldan High School (map).  The program will begin at 10:00 AM and run until 12:00 PM.  Congressman Lacey Clay (MO - 1st District), Congressman Russ Carnahan (MO - 3rd District), and State Representative Jeff Roorda (District #102 - Jefferson County) will address high school students from bi-state areas in the main auditorium at Soldan High School. They will talk about international affairs and role of the United Nations. This program is sponsored by Soldan High School's Model United Nations Club in cooperation with Civitas Associates, International Affairs Council of St. Louis and Jewish Community Center.

We are inviting your students and teachers associated with Civitas programs to participate at this outstanding program. Teachers, your students have a chance of life time to engage in a dialogue with these speakers.

    Middle School News

The Middle School Model UN program is really rolling!  Lisa has been busy visiting our participating schools and talking with students about resolution writing and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  Last week she visited twelve schools, and this week she'll be going to Maplewood-Richmond Height Middle School, St. Roch, Hixson Middle School, Loyola Academy, and McKinley CJA.  In addition, Arthur will be visiting with the students at Lift for Life Academy.  The students continue to impress us with their understanding of global problems and intelligent questions.  We can't wait to see the resolutions they produce!

Don't forget our last teachers' meeting for the program!  We'll be meeting at The Heights on Monday, February 26th from 4:00-5:00.  This is a very important meeting-we'll be selecting resolutions for our General Assemblies, receiving new curricular ideas to support the program, and discussing possible changes to the fall workshop. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS & PREDICTIONS

It's a new year and many students at last Saturday's discussion group were interested in talking about New Year's Resolutions.  Here's an opportunity for you to share those.  We also would be most interested in your predictions for 2007!
