Civitas Urban Studies Program "In Session"

The Civitas Urban Studies program began yesterday, Monday, July 7. Eleven students are enrolled and we are off to an excellent start. On Monday, we had an orientation session followed by a downtown scavenger hunt (link below). In the afternoon, we met with Dr. Mark Tranel of the Public Policy Research Center at the University of Missouri - St. Louis and Dan Lehocky from Sustainable St. Louis. The two gentlemen introduced us to the concept of ecological footprint and made everyone far more aware of the impact that we as individuals have on our community. Information and photos from their presentation are available by clicking on the "Summer 2003 Activity Index" link below. We thank Bobbi Clemons and Stephen Griffard for writing essays on short notice to make today's e-newsletter.

Today we will going on a "bird's-eye tour of St. Louis" with views of St. Louis from the Metropolitan Life Building (downtown), the University Club Building (Clayton), and the Doubletree Hotel in Chesterfield. We will also tour the Chesterfield Valley Shopping Center (longest strip mall in the U.S.) and have lunch with developer Dean Burns from THF Realty. You can access photos, essays, and links on our activities today and every other day by going to our "Summer 2003 Activity Index" link below.

Our calendar link below will also direct you to upcoming activities.
