As you can clearly see, our newsletter has a new look. We have switched vendors to Market Volt, a St. Louis-based company operated by several close friends of Civitas. We are very impressed with both their products and their service and are sure that you will see improvements such as more links per story, more images per story, improved surveys, and a continuing array of improvements that Market Volt is working on.

We also have information on our new, improved internet site, our summer Urban Studies seminar, Civitas night at the ballpark, and several other activities in this newsletter.

In addition to reading our newsletters, you may also want to visit our web site by clicking here. We have a good deal of current information, and through the year we will be working on building up our archives from previous years.

Civitas Introduces New Web Site

As we mentioned last week, Civitas has reformatted many of its web pages to make them easier to find and navigate. We now have drop-down menus from the top of the page as well as logical link buttons on the left side of many of our pages.

The internet has become more important to us through the years. We had more "hits" this year than ever before. With the growth of our site as well as this weekly e-newsletter, we have reduced our mailings to four or five a year and save several thousands of dollars in paper and postage.

We hope that you find the new site helpful and convenient. We know that there are some gaps in it now and "Murphy's Law" tells us that there are quite a few errors that we have not yet found. We ask that you E-Mail us at [email protected] to share your comments with us and most particularly to let us know what problems you might encounter. Also, if there are additional features that you would like, please let us know that as well.

If you go to our web site and still see our previous home page, just click on your "refresh" or "reload" button and the new one will appear. You may want to "re-bookmark" it.

Urban Studies Calendar Now Ready
For those students who will be participating in our Urban Studies Seminar this summer, we have our preliminary calendar for this year now available on-line. With our main theme being on urban sprawl, we have many more field trips planned to the "outer reaches" of the St. Louis area than we had last year. We will also be studying more "fill-in" areas in the city of St. Louis as well as the inner-ring of suburbs to look at countermeasures to sprawl.

As mentioned before, we have information from last year's Urban Studies program available from one of our new web pages. The page can be accessed by clicking on the link at the bottom or this article. When you get to the page, you can browse around for information and also go to the Application Form.

St. Louis is unique in that the sprawl problem is exacerbated by the existence of over ninety separate municipalities in St. Louis County alone. In the seminar, we will explore the concept of government consolidation leading to possible better urban planning.

The sessions will run for two weeks from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM. Students will be paid a stipend for participating in the program. Iif you are interested, please go to the web site below. You can access the application form from there.

Civitas Night at the Cardinals
On Wednesday, June 25, Civitas is sponsoring a "night at the ballpark." The Cardinals will play the latest version of the "Big Red Machine" -- the Cincinnati Reds. Can Albert, Edgar, Jimmy, J.D., Scott & Co. outslug Mr. Griffey, Jr., Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns, Aaron Boone, and their cast of cohorts? Join us at the ballpark to find out.

We will be leaving from the DeBaliviere MetroLink station at 6:00 PM and returning at 11:00 PM (or one- half hour after the conclusion of the game). You can access a map to the DeBaliviere station by clicking on the event on our new interactive web-based calendar.

The ticket cost will be $10.00 per person (Civitas will pick up the difference in actual cost). We ask that students and friends who want to attend please sign- up for the game on our web site. You can access the sign-up page by clicking on the link at the bottom of this story.

We hope to have a fine turnout and watch the Cardinals (who by the way are the "official team of the peace movement in the U.S.") engage in an exciting intra-division game.

New Survey -- MetroLink
With our new MarketVolt newsletter, we can include more in-depth polls, with up to ten questions. Our basic question today is, "Do you support continued spending for MetroLink expansion in the St. Louis area?" You can click on the detailed poll with the survey link below and the one question survey with the "Link to Intranets Site" below.
