Fourth 8th Grade Model U.N. Big Success
We want to congratulate students from Maplewood- Richmond Heights Middle School and Notre Dame Elementary School (St. Louis) for an outstanding job at last week's (April 16) 8th grade Model U.N. There was very constructive discussion and debate which took place in a serious and reflective environment. The outcome from the foreground of activity was that four out of six resolutions were passed; two of them amended in the process. The resolutions can be accessed by clicking on the link below. Then you should click on Item 8.

You can also access photos from the session from the same link. Click on Item 8a.

Final High School Model U.N. on Saturday, April 26
It has been since December that we have had a regular high school Model U.N. session. Our third and final session is on Saturday, April 26. It will be at Forest Park Community College from 9:00 AM 0 12:00 Noon.

Information on how to get to Forest Park Community College, how to access previous resolutions, and how to get updated country rosters are all available through the link at the bottom of this story.

We would love to receive additional resolutions. Our deadline to receive them is Wednesday, April 23. You may E-Mail them to us at [email protected] or fax them to us at (314) 367-7742.

The world has changed considerably since December. The U.S. controls more territory but has less respect than it did in 2002. Are human rights more protected now than several months ago, or are they more endangered? Is proper attention being paid to environmental concerns, or are they just an after-thought? We welcome resolutions, discussion, and voting on these and other topics in our final high school session of the year.

High School Picnic on Saturday, May 10
We will end our year's activities with a picnic and softball game in Forest Park for high school students. Among the events planned for the day is the announcement of "outstanding delegate awards" along with $500 scholarships to the ten students who have contributed the most to the program in the past year.

The activities will be from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. We will first have the picnic at Picnic Area #3 (please see map link at bottom of this article). Following the picnic we will have the softball game (again, see map link at bottom of article). We will have more information about the events in upcoming newsletters.

    New Poll
Last week, over 68% of respondents indicated that they did not think that the U.S. should invade Syria in the wake of the war with Iraq.

On another subject, many countries will not extradite major crime suspects to the United States because many states in the U.S. have the death penalty. The U.S. is the only "industrialized" country in the world that still has the death penalty. Our question of the week is:

Do you think that the U.S. should abolish the death penalty so that foreign nations would extradite more suspected major criminals to the U.S.?

    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. Not Sure
