Dear Arthur,
This newsletter includes important information about
the high school Model U.N. this Saturday at Forest Park
Community College. Included are links to resolutions for
the session. Also in the newsletter is a review of last
Thursday's workshop with over 500 students;
information on MUNUC, a new poll, and a chat room
discussion tonight.
In addition to reading our newsletters, you may also
want to visit our
web site by clicking here. We have a good deal of
current information, and through the year we will be
working on building up our archives from previous
years.
Fall Session of Gateway Model U.N. this Saturday!
The Fall Saturday session of the Gateway Model United
Nations is this week, November 16, at Forest Park
Community College [map-link in next article] from 9:00
AM - 12:00 Noon. High school students have been
extremely busy in preparation for this session with
the "U.N. & Africa" conference as well as four
discussion groups and an all-day workshop at UMSL.
We know that many students have been researching
their countries and writing resolutions for the session.
Our special thanks to the students and faculty advisors
at Collinsville High School, DeSmet Jesuit High School,
Hazelwood Central High School, Parkway South High
School, St. John the Baptist High School, and St.
Joseph's Academy for submitting resolutions. Nearly
thirty resolutions have been submitted and they are
now posted on the web and you can access
them (and all other future resolutions) by clicking on
the link at the bottom of this article.
The deadline for resolutions has been extended to
Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5:00 PM. If anyone wants to
submit additional resolutions, they may do so,
but we cannot guarantee that the resolutions will be on
the web before Saturday. Also, new resolutions will
have to be printed at the sponsor's expense. For the
resolutions that are already submitted, we will have
complete copies of the packets for all delegates on
Saturday.
Please remember that each school should have at least
three representatives for each country that it is
representing. One will serve on the Political &
Security Committee; one on the Economic &
Social Committee; and one on the Human
Rights Committee. In addition, delegations from
the countries listed below will have representatives on
the Security Council.
China
France
Russian Federation
United Kingdom
United States
Bulgaria
Cameroon
Colombia
Guinea
Ireland
Mauritius
Mexico
Norway
Singapore
Syria
We encourage students to electronically enroll as
delegates. Just go to our intranet web site
at www.civitasassociates.intranets.com. If you are
already a member, then log-in. If you are not, click
on "Enter as a Guest." Then click on the bar
on the left side titled Model U.N. Sign-up and
then complete the form.
If you want to register more than one student
electronically, then go to our home page by clicking
here. Near the top you will
see a link to "Click here for the SIGN-UP Form." Click
there and you can enroll students "in bulk."

8th Grade Workshop Last Thursday is big Success! |
|
The November 7, 2002 workshop for 8th grade students
and teachers in the Khorassan Room of the
Chase-Park Plaza was a big success. Over
500 students were in attendance.
The program included a presentation of our new video
as well as a special PowerPoint slide show on the
Middle School Model U.N. These media presentations
and the accompanying narrative allowed us to provide
explanations of how the real U.N. and a Model U.N.
operate as well as the issues that are common to
both.
Students from Maplewood-Richmond Heights High
School present a simulated Model U.N. that was most
helpful to the Middle Schoolers. The program also
included a special performance by "Africa Voice," the
drumming and dancing group from Cote d'Ivoire that
entertained high school students at the "U.N. & Africa
Conference" in October.
Students from the following schools attended the
workshop (number in parentheses indicates the number
of students who attended):
1. Cathedral School (25)
2. Fanning Middle School (60)
3. Hixson Middle School (50)
4. Humboldt Middle School (100)
5. Maplewood-Richmond Heights Middle School (35)
6. Northwest Valley Middle School [House Springs] (15)
7. Notre Dame Elementary School (12)
8. Our Lady of Fatima School (25)
9. Parkway South Middle School (63)
10. Ridgewood Middle School [Arnold] (54)
11. St. Gabriel School (3)
12. St. Mary Magdalen School (15)
13. Wydown Middle School (20)
This week we being our follow-up visits to schools. On
Tuesday, we will be at Fanning Middle; on Wednesday
at Humboldt Middle; and on Thursday at Parkway South
Middle.
We do have photos from the workshop and you can
access them by the link below. Regrettably, we had
camera problems so there are very few "good"
pictures. However, we will have some fine video from
the workshop available in the next week or so.

We will accept additional applications through Friday,
