Dear Arthur,
This newsletter includes important information about
the upcoming 8th grade workshop at the Khorissan
Room at the Chase Park Plaza. Also in the newsletter is
updates about our first regular high school model U.N.
of the year (including links to the first resolutions that
have come in), and a new poll in your preference for
the U.S. senate seat from Missouri.
In addition to reading our newsletters, you may also
want to visit our
web site by clicking here. We have a good deal of
current information, and through the year we will be
working on building up our archives from previous
years.
8th Grade Workshop Continues to Grow
The November 7, 2002 workshop for 8th grade students
and teachers will take place in the Khorissan
Room in the Chase-Park Plaza. The
reason for such a large facility is because the number
of students participating has grown to nearly 500. The
Khorissan Room (pictured below) can hold up to 1,000
people.
The program will include video and PowerPoint
presentations, explanations of how the real U.N. and a
Model U.N. operate, a simulated Model U.N. performed
by high school students, and we hope a special
performance (now in the planning stage).
As of now, the schools and the number of students
that they expect to bring to the workshop are as
follows:
1. Cathedral School (25)
2. Fanning Middle School (50)
3. Hixson Middle School (50)
4. Humboldt Middle School (60)
5. Maplewood-Richmond Heights Middle School (35)
6. Northwest Valley Middle School [House Springs] (15)
7. Notre Dame Elementary School (12)
8. Our Lady of Fatima School (25)
9. Parkway South Middle School (63)
10. Ridgewood Middle School [Arnold] (54)
11. St. Gabriel School (3)
12. St. Mary Magdalen School (15)
13. Wydown Middle School (20)
This totals out to well over 400 students. If any other
teachers are interested in having their students attend,
they should immediately E-Mail or call us.

Delegate Sign-up for High School Model U.N. |
|
The first high school Model U.N. of 2002-2003 will be on
Saturday, November 16, 2002 from 9:00 AM - 12:00
Noon at Forest Park Community College. This is a most
important session because it essentially "sets the table"
for our full-day one of Thursday, December 12. During
this Saturday session, resolutions will be introduced,
they will be discussed and debated, but probably not
passed or defeated. It is more a time to discuss issues
in general and to develop working papers. Considerable
time will be devoted to caucusing among delegates.
Please remember that each school should have at least
three representatives for each country that it is
representing. One will serve on the Political &
Security Committee; one on the Economic &
Social Committee; and one on the Human
Rights Committee.
Students who wish to electonically enroll as delegates
may do so with ease. Just go to our intranet web site
at www.civitasassociates.intranets.com. If you are
already a member, then log-in. If you are not, click
on "Enter as a Guest." Then click on the bar
on the left side
titled Model U.N. Sign-up and then complete
the form.
You can access the web site easily by clicking on the
link below.

Cover 2 wins Delegate Handbook Contest! |
|
Many of our readers are "sports savvy," so the
term "Cover 2" might mean a kind of alignment of
defensive backs in a football defense. It's what Lovie
Smith brought to the Rams last year from Tampa and it
also is the type of defense that often thwarts the
Rams' offense.
However, in this context, "Cover 2" means the second
choice of images that was offered to our readers to
vote upon for our Delegate Handbook. We had our
vote last week and "Cover 2" edged out "Cover 1" by a
vote of 19-17. So "Cover 2" it will be. You can check
out the two images by clicking on the link at the
bottom of this article.
The Delegate Handbook is graciously being printed
gratis for us by Ameren Union Electric. It will be ready
by the November 7 workshop for 8th grade students
and teachers. High School students will begin receiving
them at the November 9 Saturday Discussion Group!
